Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a session take?

About an hour, including the debrief

Where do you film?

The Training Project films around the country at partner martial arts studios. Send us an email and we'll let you know what's near you and when.

Do I have to be a certain age?

Yes. 18 and up.

Do I need to bring anything?

No. We provide the props and the vest. Wear clothes you can move in.

Is it safe?

Yes. The props fire eye-safe lasers — no projectiles, no contact. The optional feedback vest is controlled by you, from a tingle to a real hit. You decide the intensity, and you can take it off at any time.

How realistic are the props?

The taser and pepper spray are visibly props and only fire lasers. The handguns are orange and red props with the weight of real firearms. The recoil is about 30% of a real firearm.

I have a concealed carry permit. Can I bring my gun?

No. No firearms on set, ever. If you carry, leave it in your vehicle. Our props are brightly colored to prevent any mix-ups, and we keep the rule absolute for the same reason.

What if I've never held a gun?

That's fine. On your first scenario, if you choose the handgun prop, you get no instruction at all. We'll show you the basics afterwards — how to aim, how to fire. Each scenario builds in complexity, and you'll walk out with more skill and more confidence than you walked in with. The experience isn't a substitute for professional instruction, but it's a real start.

What if I freeze or do the wrong thing?

No judgement.  It happens. That's the point — better to find out here than on the street.

What if I'm trained?

Concealed carriers, off-duty officers, and martial artists all participate. The scenarios test things range time and gym time can't — moving threats, decisions under stress.

Can I bring someone with me?

Yes. They can watch, but during the simulation they have to stay quiet and off camera. The participant goes in cold and stays in it.

How do couples participate?

Three ways:

  1. Both partners respond with props.
  2. One responds, the other is there to be protected.
  3. One is in the simulation with an earpiece. The other is off camera, offering suggestions over the comm.

Can I watch a run before I decide?

No. Every participant goes in cold, and you'll get more out of it the same way.

Will the footage be public?
